Johnson County Voters to Vote on Electing Judges

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ Johnson County voters decide Nov. 4 if their
district court judges should be elected rather than appointed.

The ballot initiative already is unusual. The only place in the nation to opt for electing judges after using a ``merit'' system of appointing them is neighboring Wyandotte County.

But the campaign is unusual for another reason, and that's Phill Kline.

Opponents of the initiative are using the defeated Johnson County district attorney as a reason to vote against the proposal. They've even put up a billboard saying, ``Keep Phill Kline Off Our Court.''

Supporters say that's a ``scare tactic'' because Kline can't win an election in Johnson County.

And Kline? He's not commenting.
