The man charged with kidnapping, raping, and murdering a Topeka teen will not appear in court Friday as expected. 24-year-old Deon Ross is accused of killing 18-year-old Alheli Alcantara.
The defense counsel asked Wednesday for a continuance in the trial. Ross could get as much as life in prison for the first degree murder charge. The preliminary hearing has not yet been re-scheduled.
There is also an Alheli Alcantara memorial fund set up at Commerce Bank for anyone wanting to donate.
