Slow Customer Demands Prompts More Goodyear Shutdowns

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Workers at Goodyear's plant in Topeka are told they'll be taking some time off in November and December when the company has two more shutdowns because of a weak economy.

The company announced Wednesday that commercial truck tire production will be shut down during the weeks of Nov. 3 and Dec. 1. A Goodyear spokesman says reduced customer demand for the tires is to blame.

The shutdowns will affect about 500 employees.

The plant also had shutdowns in September and October, and three other Goodyear plants are expected to be shut down next week.
