Monday was the last day to register to vote in the November election.
In Shawnee County, voters had until 9pm to register at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. The Movie Magic store on North Topeka Boulevard was open until 10pm to take registrations.
Advance voting began last Wednesday. Shawnee County Elections Commissioner Elizabeth Ensley said with the increase in popularity of advance voting she is taking new security precautions.
Ensley sought funding to help increase security for the advance ballots. The Commission approved her request at their meeting Monday morning.
Ensley said she is working closely with area law enforcement to ensure the safety of voters' advance ballots.
