Man Struck by Train, Killed Sunday in Merriam

Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was struck by a train in Merriam. Police said the man was walking on railroad tracks at about 8:00 p.m. Sunday night when a coal train traveling 20 to 25 miles per hour struck him from behind.

The man died at the scene. He has not been identified. Police say the man did not react to the train's whistle. Merriam police say alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
