The role of slavery in an important symbol of our nation's freedom is on display at the Statehouse this month.
"From Freedom's Shadow African Americans and the United States Capitol" is the title of the traveling exhibit. It tells how both free and enslaved blacks help construct the US Capitol building.
It also shares stories of today's African-Americans in Congress. The Topeka group Friends of the Free State Capitol is hosting the exhibit. You can see it through October 28th at the Statehouse.
