The importance of keeping the lights on once the school day is over was the focus for one group Thursday.
Community First helds its first-ever "Lights on After School" rally Thursday at Abbott Community Center.
The event raised awareness of the importance of funding after school programs. Organizers say those programs are vital for kids during the hours after school when they're often on their own and most at risk. They say after-school programs keep kids busy, keep kids learning and keep kids in a safe environment.
Those attending encouraged elected leaders to expand after school programs so every child might have access to one.
