WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for killing a Wichita bar owner.
Donovan Thompson was convicted in August of second-degree murder in the June 2007 shooting death of Teresa Hastings at the Half-Time Sports Bar.
Authorities say the shooting took place when gang members tried to force their way into the bar. The 42-year-old Hastings was shot in the throat. Another bar employee was critically wounded.
Sedgwick County District Judge Ben Burgess on Friday sentenced Thompson to 117 months for the murder conviction and 12 months on a conviction for aggravated battery.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office says Thompson's sentence will be reduced by time already served.
