Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - Three new Champions of Character were crowned at the Great Overland Station for the month of November.

When Clint Mentzer and his 6-year-old son arrived home in early October, they found a man carrying items out of their house. Mentzer questioned the intruder and then called police. The man took off running down the street while Mentzer was on the phone. He chased him a block and a half. With the help of neighbors John Jackson and Justin Banks, they stopped the man and held him down while they waited for police.

All three received the Champion of Character award. They were nominated by Character Recognition Nomination Council Member Sally Zellers for their boldness, determination and justice.

Anyone may make a nomination for Character Champions. Nomination forms may be obtained by downloading a form at the Topeka City of Character website, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, Topeka Capital Journal or by calling the Topeka City of Character office at 273-4330.
