TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Police Department is investigating what caused two men to arrive at two separate hospitals with gunshot wounds Sunday night.
LT Scott Gilchrist reports officers were first called to St. Francis Hospital at 10:48 p.m. because a male shooting victim had arrived by private vehicle. He was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
He told officers he was shot at 8th and Western. Further investigation led authorities to locate a "possible crime scene" at 914 W. 8th.
Less than 15 minutes later, at 11:01 p.m., officers were called to Stormont-Vail where a second gunshot victim arrived by private vehicle.
That person's injuries are considered life threatening. LT Gilchrist reports the victim was alert when he arrived at the hospital, but was not cooperating with police.
Gilchrist says it's not know whether the two men were shot in the same incident or if two separate shootings occurred. No suspect information was provided by either victim.
Detectives were conducting follow up at 1:30 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives at 368-9400 or Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
