Sh. Co. Commissioners Vote Down Proposed Fire Station

The area northeast of Silver Lake won't be home to a new fire station - at least for now.

Shawnee County Commissioners voted one to two against it Monday.

Vic Miller was in favor of it while commissioners Shelly Buhler and Ted Ensley voted against it.

They said it was not a vote against the Fire Department; the proposed location at 45th and Landon Road was the problem.

Silver Lake Fire Chief Joe Hawkins says he is disappointed while some residents say they are happy with the decision.

The Commission agrees there is a need for a new station. They hope the department will continue its search for a new location.
