EMPORIA, Kan. - Emporia residents packed the Little Theater in the Civic Building Monday night. They were invited to speak before Emporia city commissioners regarding a proposed smoking ban.
Clean Air Emporia proposed a ban that would not allow smoking within 20 feet of any business doorway. Some feel that ban is too strict.
Last week another group proposed an alternative that would give business owners the choice whether or not to allow smoking inside their business.
City manager, Matt Zimmerman, said the purpose of Monday's hearing was to get public input on the two ordinances to decide what the best course of action is.
"The city commission is simply trying to get information and see where points of view are," said Zimmerman. "We may have to have more than one hearing."
