EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) _ A 29-year-old Wichita man has drowned while trying to retrieve a boat at El Dorado Lake.
Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet says a dive team used sonar equipment to find the body of Oscar Rodriguez Vargas at about 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/128m5i8) reports that the man's body was found about 100 feet from the shore in water almost 20 feet deep.
Herzet said the Vargas apparently stepped off an underwater ledge into deep water when he went to retrieve a boat that had drifted from the shore. The man wasn't wearing a life jacket and apparently couldn't swim well. The man never made it to the boat.
The man and his family had been camping at the lake with his boss and his boss's wife.
