ARGONIA, Kan. (AP) _ Emergency workers had to rescue five teenagers last night after their raft capsized on a flooded river in southern Kansas.
During the rescue attempt on the Chicaskia River south of Argonia, three Wellington firefighters and a fourth person also fell into the waters churned up by days of heavy rain.
Sumner County Emergency Management Coordinator James Fair says all nine people were pulled out of the water by 12:30 this morning.
Fair says one of the rescuers was injured and taken to a hospital. KAKE-TV reports the 43-year-old civilian male was described to be in ``extremely critical condition.''
Fair says the remaining people appeared in good health although the teens were to stay the night in hospitals for observation.
