The family members of National Guard soldiers got a glimpse at what they do for a living Saturday. They watched a display of the multiple launch rocket system -- a weapon so deadly enemies call it "steel rain."

It was the first time in three years the Kansas National Guard invited family members to see a live fire display.

For Ted Lawyer, it wasn't just a great family event -- it was a time to say goodbye to the military. This Vietnam and Iraq war veteran retired for good Saturday.

He said he wouldn't change a thing, but feels for the Vietnam vets who were not treated as well by the public as today's vets.

Click the video to see the rockets, and to hear a vet's thoughts on 40 years of military life, as well as comparing Vietnam to Iraq.
