Teen Trapped in Car 16 Hours in Better Condition

WESTMORELAND, Kan. - Stormont-Vail Hospital officials say Laurel Lauer, 16, is in fair condition Thursday evening. That's an upgrade from her serious condition earlier in the week.

Lauer was in an accident on Westmoreland Road, just east of Cree Road, Friday, Sept. 5. Officials estimate she went off the rural roadway about 4 p.m., but because of the location of her car off the road and behind some trees, she wasn't found until 8:40 a.m. Saturday by the landowner.

Lauer was life-flighted to Stormont-Vail in Topeka where she continues her recovery.

She is a junior at Rock Creek High School.
