TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A state board deciding who will operate a casino in Wyandotte County wonders whether it will hurt existing businesses.

The issue arose Tuesday during a brief teleconference by the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board.

The meeting gave board members a chance to seek additional information from its staff and consultants and from potential casino developers.

The board plans to meet Sept. 18 and 19 to award state contracts for a single casino in Ford and Wyandotte counties. The Lottery will own the new gambling.

Chairman Matt All said one question is whether the board should pick the broadest proposal possible, with retail shops and other amenities, for Wyandotte County. Four applicants are competing for the contract.
