TOPEKA, Kan. - The City of Topeka has received one of two insurance payments for the police helicopter that crashed on the Washburn University campus in April 2008.
The helicopter was totalled in the crash, which is still under investigation.
Topeka Police spokesperson Kristi Pankratz says there were two insurance policies on the $675,000 Robinson helicopter.
One policy was to cover the cost of the airframe, the other was for the electronics the helicopter was equipped with.
The city has received a $440,000 payout for the airframe of the helicopter. Pankratz says they are still working with the insurance company on the electronics policy.
