HOLTON, Kan. - A northeast Kansas community has commissioned outside help to attract people and business owners to its downtown area.
Holton community members attended a visioning session Monday night to share their view for the future of their city.
The Kansas Main Street Resource Team is in Holton through Thursday to make recommendations to the Main Street Program.
The resource team will meet with community groups and leaders to identify marketing opportunities for the city's downtown area.
"Our downtown serves as the living room of our community," said Kansas Main Street Program's Jeanne Stinson. "It's where we bring our guests. It's where we welcome our guests. It is also a center of economics for the community. So we want to get it ready in all the ways that we can."
On August 26 and 27, interviews with community groups, including business owners, historians, major employers, media, city and county commissioners, service organizations, and others, will be conducted by the Kansas Main Street Resource Team.
The resource team will present recommendations to the public on Thursday, August 28 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at EUM Church in Holton.
