WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A jury has convicted 21-year-old Donovan Thompson in the June 2007 shooting death of a Wichita bar owner.
After deliberating for about five hours Monday, the jurors found Thompson guilty of second-degree murder instead of the more serious charge of first-degree murder.
Thompson shot and killed 42-year-old Teresa Hastings at the Half-Time Sports Bar.
Hastings was shot after refusing to allow Thompson and several other people into the bar after the group got into a gang-related fight at the entrance.
Thompson also was found guilty of aggravated battery for shooting and wounding a man who was one of Hastings' employees.
Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
