Smoking Ban Petition Goes to Manhattan City Commissioners

A special meeting of the manhattan city commission is set for Tuesday, August 26th to consider a smoking ban.

The Manhattan Mercury reports an ordinance petition prohibiting smoking within Manhattan city limits at places of employment and public places has been ruled valid. The Mercury says elections officers say the petition had about 1600 valid signatures, while about 1300 were needed.

City commissioners have 20 days to enact the ordinance as written or it will automatically go on the ballot within 60 days for a public vote.
