A long-range plan is on the table to help children in the Topeka Public School district before they ever head to class.
Members of the public gave their input Monday night on a draft proposal to beef up early childhood education in USD 501. People said they want to make sure they're included in partnership with the district. They also want the plan to serve as many kids as possible.
Director of early childhood education, Dr. Tina Thompson, will present the plan along with community concerns to the USD 501 board on thursday. It includes four goals - providing high-quality early childhood education, staffing the programs with highly-qualified professionals, advocating for early childhood programs through collaboration with families and business communities, and providing support and outreach to families.
After hearing details Thursday, the board will provide guidance for the plans next steps.
