Topeka, KS (WIBW)--Construction is underway at the Pines Apartment Complex in Topeka after a three alarm fire destroyed several units.
About 15 families were displaced during the fire in mid June. Officials say a woman had left her stove on and is believed to be the cause of the fire. There was over a million dollars of damages reported.
No people were injured but several pets died in the blaze. Construction is at the halfway point and most living there have been very understanding.
“Most of them are still here we have relocated them to other units some want to come back to the units they were in obviously we will give them that option when we're done but everything is going fine,” Bill Duckworth with the Pines Apartments said.
Construction is expected to be complete by Halloween.
