I hope you've seen our coverage of the Heartland Visioning Process the past couple of months.
Whether it be the hundreds participating in focus groups, large community meetings or the nearly 200 in the community task force, this process is insuring that the entire community is heard in planning Topeka's future.
It is a process that the Topeka City Council should call on before putting a possible sales tax increase on the ballot this November.
In several meetings the past couple of weeks, the council has been unable to find a proposal it can support together. I urge the council to seek guidance from the Heartland Visioning Task Force.
This community-representative group has shown the ability to work through tough questions. Its input could be both important and decisive. I'm confident, as one of its members, that it would agree to meet again to discuss this important question.
I believe the council should wait on setting a ballot question until it has gotten a broader community read from the Heartland Visioning Task Force.
