A Shawnee County Parks and Rec facility could have your name on it.
A fundraising plan released by Parks and Recreation to Shawnee County Commissioners Thursday puts prices on naming opportunities for Shawnee County facilities.
The costs paid to have a facility named after you or your business will be developed into a fund with the Topeka Community Foundation for future repairs and projects. Parks and Rec Director John Knight says the goal is to take some pressure off taxpayers.
"As time goes on things begin to age," Knight said. "That's why over the past few years here a lot of money has been spent on some of our facilities, to modernize them, bring them up to date so that they were maintained properly for the public. We would have a source of funds then that offset tax dollars anywhere between 40 and 50 percent offsetting tax dollars for doing those type of things."
Some pricing guidelines so far range from $50,000 to $2 million. Those include naming opportunities for the Lake Shawnee baseball and softball complexes, the Lake Shawnee trail, golf course, Ted Ensley gardens, and Shawnee South Aquatics Sprayground.
