TOPEKA - Topeka Police continue investigating an accident that closed the Sardou Bridge Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called to the bridge around 12:30 p.m. They say an eastbound Dodge Intrepid crossed the center lane, and struck the side of the bridge, a utility pole and an oncoming vehicle.
The utility pole fell over and sparked a small grass fire.
The cause of the accident is under investigation..
The 69-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle and her 15-year-old passenger were not injured. The driver of the Intrepid, 45-year-old Brenda Sleep, was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The brdige was closed for a time while crews cleared away the wreck, but was later reopened.
