Washburn University gave a gift that will help keep the Topeka Fire Department's HazMat team a little safer.
Washburn President Jerry Farley donated six personal protection equipment kits to the fire department Tuesday.
The Washburn Police Department was awarded the kits through the Homeland Security Assistance Program. They decided the suits would be best utilized by the highly trained Topeka Fire Department HazMat team.
Each kit is valued at $500 and includes certified equipment used by first responders for chemical and biological terrorism incidents.
