record high 522 million bushels, up 1 percent from last year's 518
A USDA report Tuesday said planted acreage is just over 4 million acres, up 5 percent from a year ago. If realized, this will be the
highest planted acres since 1936.
The state's wheat crop is an estimated 366 million bushels, unchanged from the July 1 forecast but 29 percent higher than the 2007 crop. Yield is estimated at 39 bushels per acre, up 6 bushels from a year ago.
Kansas sorghum grain production is forecast to fall 8 percent from last year's 212 million bushels. Soybean production is up 18 percent from last year's production of 84 million bushels.
