The weather may not feel like summer is coming to an end, but for Shawnee Heights students, summer vacation ended Tuesday.
Teachers welcomed most of the district's students back to the books.
Although many of the children will miss fun-filled days with no homework, they agree on one thing that's good about being back in the classroom -- getting to see their friends again!
"The first day of school is a wonderful time," 4th grade teacher Lori Miller said. "There is a lot of energy. The kids are excited to get back. This is a wonderful school and the kids just missed each other so much. We have a good family atmosphere here at Shawnee Heights Elementary School."
A few students got to enjoy an extra day off. Shawnee Heights 8th graders, sophomores, juniors and seniors head back to school Wednesday.
