WU Celebrates Namesake's Birthday

Washburn University celebrated the 210th birthday of Ichabod Washburn Monday afternoon.

The school held a birthday party for the man who donated money to keep the university growing in 1868. Washburn gave the school, then named Lincoln College, $25,000.

Washburn President Dr. Jerry Farley and the Ichabod's mascot handed out free ice cream sandwiches.

The school also had specials on food and university items as part of the celebration.
