A group of education leaders is working together to provide more opportunities for students in need of special attention.
They form the special education funding task force. Friday was the group's introductory meeting.
They're getting together to take a look at how Kansas funds special education, and whether there are other ways the state can provide funding for the programs.
Education commissioner Alexa Posny says the group will look at whether there are different, more effective ways to ensure special education students' needs are met.
Posny says there is always a concern about rising special education costs, but part of that is because more students are being identified.
Members of the special education task force were appointed by the legislature.
