They're not world class athletes, but that didn't keep one group of racers from tearing up the race track Thursday.

This drag race rally was the third rally organized to promote the Topeka Festival of Speed scheduled to coincide with the SCCA championship runoffs in October.

When SCCA decided not to hold the runoffs in Topeka after this year the festival was created to attract another large scale racing event that would replace the economic impact of losing the runoffs in Topeka.

Media personalities got behind the wheel to give fans a great drag race show Thursday.

Scott Strecker of Lamar outdoor won the drag race. The first annual "Topeka Festival of Speed" is October first through 12th. It includes a parade, a carnival, parties, concerts and special food events.

SCCA championship runoffs are October 10 through 12.
