TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Phill Kline's chief deputy is promising that Kline won't have any role in his office if he's elected Shawnee County district attorney.
Eric Rucker is running for the Shawnee County job while working for Kline, who is district attorney in Johnson County.
Rucker's tie to Kline was an issue in Rucker's successful Republican primary race against two-term Shawnee County DA Robert Hecht.
The issue also is being raised by Rucker's Democratic opponent, Chad Taylor.
Kline, a former attorney general, was appointed Johnson County DA in December 2006. He lost his Republican primary race for a full four-year term.
Kline has received national attention for investigating abortion clinics, and it was a factor in his loss.
