Shawnee County will have a new district attorney come next year.
Incumbent Robert Hecht was defeated in the Republican primary for the office Tuesday by Eric Rucker. The vote was 10,076 for Rucker to 5795 for Hecht.
Rucker told 13 News the victory was a reflection of the voters' desire to return to a priority of prosecuting violent crime. However, he also thanked Hecht for his many years of public service and said that, if he's ultimately elected, he will continue to pursue Hecht's cases against city government.
On the Democratic side of the ticket, attorney Chad Taylor defeated fellow attorney Jerry Berger. Taylor says he'll continue an aggressive campaign for his priority of making the community safe.
