FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ Police say the Fort Bragg soldier charged in the death of a pregnant soldier was the father of her unborn child but married to someone else.

Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine says 27-year-old Edgar Patino admitted fathering Specialist Megan Touma's unborn baby.

The 23-year-old Touma was seven months pregnant when found dead
in a motel bathtub last month near the North Carolina base.

Touma's family lives at Fort Riley, Kansas. In a statement released by Fort Riley Wednesday, Touma's family said it was heartened by the arrest of a suspect in the case. The family also said it appreciated the thoughts and prayers that have helped them cope with Touma's death.
