TOPEKA, Kan. - Nearly two years ago the Topeka Boulevard Bridge was brought to the ground. Two years later the city is inviting the public to join in a celebration for the opening of the newly constructed Topeka Boulevard Bridge.
A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd from 4-10 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.
During the celebration, the bridge will be open to pedestrian traffic only.
At about 4:30 p.m. attendees will be asked to assemble at either the north or south side and will march to the center of the bridge (it will be about a 10-minute walk), joining both sides together for a brief ceremony. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs because limited seating will be available.
Streets surrounding the bridge will be closed for the celebration beginning at 4 p.m. On the south side of the bridge, Topeka Boulevard will be closed at 3rd Street and on the north side, Gordon to Morris will be closed.
Any area merchants who would like to be involved in the celebration and provide donations, such as bottled water, may contact Monique Glaude at (785) 368-4470 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
Crews anticipate opening the bridge to vehicle traffic the following day, August 4th, at 6 a.m.
