Sgt. Steve Taylor with the Topeka Police Department says several officers are upset with Shawnee County District Attorney, Robert Hecht.

During a news conference Tuesday they voiced their concerns and frustrations even calling Hecht a liar. They say Hecht attacks law enforcement instead of accepting responsibility for his actions. The group provided the example of the Word Ackward case. Ackward dragged a police officer and the incident was caught on police camera. A report and the footage was handed over to Hecht's office. They say nothing else was ever asked for. The FOP says charges were never filed and Ackward then got involved in a homicide where Josh Buckman was shot during a robbery. Taylor says Hecht then filed charges for the prior incident against Ackward. He was convicted and sentenced to 102 months. Taylor says that if he would have been convicted he would have been in jail and the Buckman incident would never have occurred. Taylor says this is just one of several examples.

Hecht was not available for comment Tuesday but he did speak with 13News on Monday where he said his office has spent time and money to improve the professionalism of both the Police Department and his own office.
