The heat sent several people to Topeka hospitals over the weekend.

Stormont-Vail HealthCare says it treated four people for heat-related illness. A spokesperson says they also saw an increase in complaints of chest pain and shortness of breath, which may or may not have been due to the heat.

Physicians at Saint Francis Health Center in Topeka saw two people each Saturday and Sunday and at least one Monday. However, a spokesperson says that's about average during the summer months.

Also over the weekend, former Washburn basketball player Greg "Buzz" Wilson passed away, reportedly of complications caused by the heat. The 50-year old became ill after being outdoors, playing four softball games.

Heat-related illness can cause symptoms such as headache, weakness and nausea.
