Boardwalk Apartments Takes Step Forward in Rebuilding

Plans are coming together to rebuild a Lawrence apartment complex heavily damaged by fire three years ago.

The Boardwalk Apartment Complex burned in 2005. 76 units were destroyed and three people killed. Former apartment tenant Jason Rose is serving a 10-year prison sentence for setting the deadly blaze.

Lawrence City Commissioners gave preliminary approval Tuesday to vacate part of a street around the Boardwalk property to make way for redevelopment. Work could begin by the end of the year.
