Two area high school teachers, Paul Gronquist from Topeka High, and Thomas King from Wabaunsee High in Alma, earned the honor of traveling to the nation's capital as part of the inaugural "Kansas and West Texas Teachers to D.C.: Historic Encounters" program sponsored by the Bill of Rights Institute.
The two area teachers joined 13 others in the trip. The institute covered their travel costs and other expenses.
The teachers were chosen to participate because of their dedication to "teaching about the liberties guaranteed in our Founding documents, and how our Founding principles shape our society" says Victoria Hughes, president of the Bill of Rights Institute.
During the three-day trip, the teachers visited various historical and political landmarks including Mount Vernon and the National Archives.
The trip was July 8th through 10th.
