FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) _ Fort Riley's commanding general has been nominated for a post at the Pentagon and his third star.
Maj. Gen. Robert E. Durbin was nominated Friday by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to be special assistant to the Army chief of staff for enterprise management.
Durbin has been at Fort Riley for a little more than a year, replacing Lieutenant General Carter Ham. Durbin is also commander of the 1st Infantry Division.
Ham was nominated Friday for his fourth star and to be the next commanding general of the U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, based in Germany. Ham currently is director of operations for the Joint Staff in the Pentagon.
