Some Topekans had the chance to learn about life on the street from people who have been there.
The Topeka Homeless Task Force held a public forum at Topeka's Rescue Mission Wednesday. Those attending heard testimonies from people who were and some who are still homeless. They said support of facilities like the Rescue Mission is integral in helping get people off the streets.
Marisa Brown-Robinson spent time on the streets. She now works at the Rescue Mission. She says people need to realize that homelessness affects everyone.
Rescue Mission Director Barry Feaker meetings like the forum are important in reminding people that Topeka does have a homeless population. Knowing the problem exists is a step in the right direction toward finding solutions.
Similar meetings are held around the community three times a year.
