Ignoring the flashing lights of a police car ultimately landed an Arizona man behind bars.
39-year old Vincent P. Brungardt of Nogales, Arizona was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for drug trafficking. Brungardt pleaded guilty in April to one count of interstate travel for unlawful activities.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says, on Jan. 17, a Wichita Police officer was stopped along I-35 with his emergency lights on when Brungardt passed him without moving over or slowing down. The officer pulled over Brungardt, who said he was driving to Minnesota to see his girlfriend.
Brungardt refused the officer’s request to search his car, so the officer brought in a drug dog, which led to the discovery of about 44 pounds of cocaine in a false compartment under the vehicle.
