Suspected Killer of KU Student Was in NJ before Slaying Discovered

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ Investigators say the man suspected of killing a University of Kansas student last week drove nearly 23 hours to New
Jersey - arriving before Jana Mackey's body was found.

They also say Adolfo Garcia-Nunez's teenaged son and daughter were with him, but were not involved in Mackey's killing.

She was found dead at the home of Garcia-Nunez, her ex-boyfriend.

Police believe Mackey was killed between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, when
she was last seen in class, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, when Garcia-Nunez was seen at a Lawrence convenience store before driving to New Jersey.

Mackey was reported missing around 4:30 pm Thursday. Her car was found a couple hours later, in a parking lot at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Her body was found around 11:30 pm Thursday, inside Garcia-Nunez' home.

Authorities captured Garcia-Nunez in New Jersey over the weekend. He committed suicide in police custody.
