TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) A trial date has been set for a 27-year-old
Topeka man charged with first-degree murder in the May shooting death of a woman outside an area hotel.
Prosecutors say Sterling Ray Hall III approached 50-year-old Pamela McMaster of Topeka as she sat outside her room at the Regency Inn and Suites with her fiance and a friend. Hall is accused of shooting McMaster in the back four times without saying a word.
Authorities said in May they had been unable to find any connection between Hall, McMaster or the other two people.
Hall will be tried starting Sept. 22 on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm.
