WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Red Cross officials in Wichita have had to cancel a program that brings food to home-bound people after thieves disabled some of their vehicles.

The American Red Cross Midway Kansas Chapter says someone struck 11 Red Cross vehicles over the weekend, taking their catalytic
converters.

Thefts of the pollution-reducing devices are rising as they contain small amounts of the precious metals platinum and palladium.

The vehicles are being repaired. But in the meantime, officials have had to temporarily cancel their Good Neighbor Nutrition Program, which serves 1,000 meals a day. Some of the meals are delivered to people who are home-bound and the rest are served to sites where people are transported from their homes.
