Pfc. Darrell Dressler showed an act of heroism by saving the train conductor and engineer in a train wreck on May 6, 2007. The accident happened by Grant Gate located on Fort Riley.

Dressler witnessed a bridge give way and two train engines crash. The heavy rain and river had washed away the bridge leading to the accident. Dressler jumped a fence and climbed up on the engine to pull the two trapped men out.

Today Dressler was presented the Soldier's Medal which is the highest decoration for acts of bravery, other than combat.
