TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Congresswoman Nancy Boyda says she will introduce legislation next week preventing states from losing billions in transportation funding.
Boyda, a Democrat who represents Kansas' 2nd District, said several state projects are at risk if the federal funding isn't restored. She had a news conference Monday with Kansas Transportation Secretary Deb Miller.
Money to cover the shortfall was stripped by the House and Senate last week.
Kansas is entering the last year of its 10-year highway plan, and the funding shortage threatens at least four of that plan's projects yet to begin in Douglas, Riley, Barton and Sedgwick counties.
