OLATHE, Kan. - This week the Kansas National Guard’s 73rd Civil Support Team and members of the Olathe Fire Department will have an opportunity to see what resources they have to assist one another in a response to a hazardous materials incident.
It’s the first step the two organizations will take to prepare for a joint full-scale haz-mat exercise to be conducted next year.
On Wednesday, July 2, members of the 73rd CST will arrive at Olathe Fire Station #2, 1725 N. Renner Blvd., at approximately 9 a.m., where the CST unit will set up its equipment as if responding to an actual hazardous materials incident.
Following set-up, Olathe firefighters will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at the 73rd CST equipment and vehicles. Olathe Fire Department staff will provide the Kansas Guardsmen an overview of their fire equipment and resources.
The event will allow each organization to see what resources they have available to assist one another in responding to hazardous materials incidents and better prepare for the June 2009 exercise.
