Silver Lake Fire Chief Joe Hawkins says 46th & Landon is the perfect location for a new fire station. It avoids overlapping coverage with other stations, and it will keep the most people safe with quick response times.
The residents who live in the area disagree.
"Hap" Anderson says the land at 46th & Landon has been in his family for more than a century. His grandmother farmed there, his father farmed there and he farmed there for more than 50 years. His sister still lives on the land.
He is concerned his sister will be startled by sirens going off in the middle of the night.

Hawkins says if the station passed the county commission, the fire department will be great, not good, but great neighbors.
The commission deferred the decision, and will vote in 90 days.
